Save TTF as Bold Only Version

Sorry about this probably quite newbie question:

How does one go about loading a TTF font, that has Regular, Italics, Bold etc. styles and save a version thereof that is Bold only (by default)?

The problem is a program that will not let me choose the style (i.e. bold), so I am trying to go the other way, by creating a bold only font.

Is the above at all possible with Font Creator Program 4.1.

Any help very much apprechiated.

Give your font a new name (say, Arial Bold only) and save it under a new file name. Make sure the font is marked as Bold. If not, Word will use its own mechanism to make it even bolder when you apply the Bold attribute to the font.

Joop Jagers,

thank you for the quick reply… alas going though the menus prior to posting yesterday, I just did not recognize what settings in what menus spefically need to be changed to make the saved font bold only.

Could you please walk me through this..? Thanx.

P.S. The font in question is MS Sans Serif, 10… does a Bold only version perchance already exist?

MS Sans Serif is actually a bitmapped font, not a true type. A true type of MS Sans Serif Regular does exists, but i can’t find a bold version anywhere. It appears that any bold use of the font is the rasteriser doing it itself.

So there is no way to build a bold only font out of MS Sans Serif?

You would have to do it by hand by taking the ttf of the regular version and fattening it by hand.
