I am using version 2877 of the program. All exported fonts are listed as Regular in Windows. Affinity Publisher and Word program do not have the same problem. Could this be due to a bug with the program?
I am not sure why it fails, so do send the font project file along with the exported font to us and we will look into it.

We have just released an update which should solve this issue.
The export problem still persists in version 2880. When I export the font as instances and masters, the entire font family is listed as regular in windows. When I export the font as a variable font, such a problem is not encountered. When I export the font as a variable, the names of the family members appear as they should in Windows, but they all appear as regular in the Affinity Publisher program.
We have just released FontCreator version 14.0.0.2881. I think we have now fixed all related bugs, so let us know your results!
Italics do not appear in Windows when I export the font as instances or masters. Instead, two regular, two bold, etc. listed as. The font is listed as it should be in the Affinity Publisher program as seen in the pictures below.
Make sure the Italic variable font also contains a global Italic axis, and that you have a corresponding axis value item:
