I’m new to fontmaking, and am trying to make an all capital letters font for a comic strip. I’m drawing the characters in a Draw program at 300 x 300 pixels and copying and pasting them into the Font Creator Glyph Edit window. I’m just using the default settings, I haven’t tried using any of the many tools yet.
Most of them imported great, and were automatically sized to the same size as the ghost glyphs. But a few of them – M, Q, T and W – came in much too small, about one-fourth the size of the others. I have no idea why.
All of them were drawn to the same 300 x 300 size. Why are some importing smaller, and what’s the easiest way to make them the same size as the other glyphs?
All images are processed with the same import settings, so the sizes of the images probably differ. You could try to paste your images to another application, like MS Paint or MS Word to see if the images have different sizes.
Thanks Erwin. No, but the size of the images are all the same. (Some are wider than others, of course, but all are drawn to maximum vertical size on a 300 x 300 pixel grid) However, I have solved this by just SHIFT-dragging the handles to make the wayward glyphs the same size as the other glyphs.
I know I’m late, but just in case you’ve not solved this problem: It may seem stupid but was your draw program, or FCP on a lower zoom level for those letters?
I made a handwriting font using a Wacom tablet in Photoshop and I think I had that problem. Also, if you’re using Photoshop check the resolution of your file. Occasionally it will change from 300dpi to 72 dpi without my ever touching the “image size” option in the menu.
