Symbol font tests and installs ok, yet characters invisible

This looks like a similar problem that was described in another topic. I’ve created, installed and used a symbol font. After making what seems a small change to a few characters, testing in FCP and reinstalling in Windows went successfully.

However, when an application tries to use the modified font, there seems to be something terribly wrong with it. Windows character map does see the font in the list, but all the characters seem to be absent. Words gets really confused and seems to want to display a huge font size (the whole page is black when you select what you entered), but no character is actually shown. My own application for which the font was intended is no longer able to show any of the characters - they seem to have gone.

I’ve had this before, and then following one of the suggestions from the other topic (creating a new font an copying all the characters) was a solution. That now no longer works.

I’m stuck. Anyone have a suggestion?

“Words” should be “MS Word”, of course…

By looking through all other topics that might in some way be relevant to this problem, I managed to find the solution myself (with thanks to the other posters!).

I had the problem on my Windows 2000 company laptop. After posting my topic, I decided to try the font on my Windows XP privat desktop and it simply worked!

So the problem was with the Windows version. I found a topic that said that W2K with SP4 (which I have) could cause problems. I followed the suggestion to have the font folder repaired by using Microsoft’s Tweak UI utility Repair Font Folder option and after that I could use the font again.

Sorry to have bothered you. It was not a Font Creator problem. (On the other hand, maybe this topic can benefit someone else as well…)

Great product! Great forum!
