Symbol or standard font tests and installs ok, yet some characters invisible or unobtainable.
This looks like a similar problem that was described in another user. I’ve created, installed and tried to use both a symbol font and a standard font, but have some characters invisible or unobtainable. Testing in FCP is successful and installing or reinstalling in Windows went successfully.
However, when some applications try to use the new font, there seems to be something terribly wrong with it. Windows Character Map does see the font in the list, and all the characters seem are there. MS Word and Corel Draw gets confused and seems to want to display a blank(s) when I try to type the characters in, maybe I should mention that this happens with two characters, the “ and ‘. My own application for which the font was intended shows all of the characters – no problems. But try this on – if I copy or import the text in from another application that accepts it with no problems, the characters are visible, or if I copy the character from Windows Character Map the character(s) are visible, but if I try to make a typing revision these two characters are blank (invisible). With the symbol font sometimes I try copying some symbol(s) with Windows Character Map and when I try inserting that into MS Word, Corel Draw, or MS Works the symbol changes into the “?” character.
I’ve had this before, and then following one of the suggestions from the other topic (creating a new font an copying all the characters) was, and was not a solution. I cannot followed the suggestion made by another “poster” to have the font folder repaired by using Microsoft’s Tweak UI Utility Repair Font Folder option, because I’m using Windows XP, and that solution is only for old platforms.
I have been in the business for over 35 years (listed in the Who’s Who as the “First Computer Graphic Artist in the Mid-west”, this isn’t the first time I have designed typefaces and have made fonts for computer systems. Thou I will admit that it has been sometime since I last built a font, and then it took me 6 months using Corel Draw 8 and it’s font program (which is slow in comparison to the Font Creator Program 4 which is 100 times faster). And I’m not sure were the problem lays, with me, with MS Word and those applications, Windows XP, or Font Creator Program 4 (in it’s manual, procedure and terminology have pass my by the answer could be there).
I’m stuck. Anyone have a suggestion?
