trying to create white internal space in A B e Q letters

Hi, thanks for considering this request.. I’m trying to create the open middle areas of letters like A B e Q and related letters which requires some kind of opposing contour directions, but, it’s not evident how to ‘select’ the various components.. I will include a screenschot of the A in progress.. yes this is some simple process.. I’ve been reading the manual and trying.. but tools like Adobe Illustrator’s select path tool don’t seem immediately apparent… I’ve done illustrator work for 20 years but am new to FontCreator.. so it’s just the hump on the learning curve.. thanks… hopefully the screenshots will post here and will make it clear … basically I’m just trying to get the white center parts of letters accurate, but haven’t figured out how to accomplish this yet in FontCreator, though it’s easy in illustrator.. thanks again.

Either draw the contour in the anticlockwise direction or use the Reverse Direction icon on the Glyph toolbar.

The one in your screen shot seems to be greyed out (left of Flip Vertical). That may be because you have drawn intersecting contours, so FontCreator cannot work out what direction the contour is — clockwise, or anticlockwise. The toolbar icon is also greyed out in Points mode, but your screen shot is showing that Contour mode is enabled.

Delete the contour and try again is easiest, but zoom right in close in points mode to the apex of the triangle to see what I mean by intersecting contours.

:bulb: Shift to constrain lines while drawing, or snap to grid can help with keeping contours symmetrical and accurate. Flip horizontal or vertical will quickly show if they are not symmetrical. In points mode, the Align tools can be used to align nodes after drawing them a bit off orthogonal.

:bulb: Shortcut modifiers Ctrl + Cursor to move nodes by 1 funit, Shift + Cursor to move by 100 funits, No modifier = 10 funits. Hintline shows current position of selected node.

thanks very much.. I pasted in a vector from Illustrator that seemed to work, from the image trace function.. but I will try everything you mention.. there’s a lot of tools new in FontCreator that I haven’t had in Illustrator, so am learning.. thank you again.. I will report results back afterwards…

If you use the insert image command for inserting vectors (AI or PDF) tracing won’t be necessary, and import is many times faster. Also drag and drop from Windows Explorer to import multiple vectors at once.
