Unicode and MS Word

:confused: This may be deemed to be unrelated to FCP and should really be addressed to a newsgroup, however…

I use Windows ME (4.90.3000), MS Word 2000 (9.0.6926 SP-3), Wordpad (Millennium edition) and FCP (4.2.4.170.49).

There is no problem typing Unicode characters in Wordpad when the form Alt+xxxx is used where xxxx is the four-figure Unicode codepoint for a character.

MS Word 2000 baulks at the prospect and will only type Alt+xxxx when xxxx is below 0256.

The input to Wordpad can be Copied/Cut and Pasted, without problem, form Wordpad into MS Word (provided that Word is opened first, minimised, and then made active as required).

Should not MS Word be able to do directly what Wordpad can do?

I’d be grateful for enlightenment.

Upgrade to Wordpad :smiley:

Open Office doesn’t do it either. Type 8364 gives ¼ instead of €, but one can insert Unicode characters via the insert symbol dialogue.
