Untestable font

Time ago I built a font from imported images; I used Evaluation Version Font Creator 5.0.
This font is well working on Windows 98 and Word 97 (first computer)
and on Windows XP and Word 2000 (second computer).
After I installed the font on the third computer with Windows XP and Word 2003 the pain is beginning!
When I choose my font, Word 2003 changes automatically the character in Times New Roman.
Font Creator 5.0 Professional Version (installed on the third computer) loads the font but can’t test it;
It’s exactly as I try to test a not european character: I see standard italic characters but not the loaded font’s ones.
As this problem is present only for that font I created with shareware Font Creator 5.0, maybe that problem is due to
right reserved or similar copyright law; but on the second computer the font works very well.
I surely need help!

Thank you Luigibio

The Evaluation version is not restricted in any way.

I think the problem is caused by Windows XP, which is more strict about what fonts it will accept.

Try, Format, Setting, Ranges, Contents and Layout Version, Version 3, Calculate, to calculate the support Unicode Ranges and Code Pages. Then try again.

Dear Pesala

I tried the way you suggest, but doesn’t work; I think it’s not a problem due to XP because on the second computer where I have XP, the font works very well.

I thank you all the same

Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP (and most likely the upcoming Windows Vista) require valid content for the Microsoft (Unicode or Symbol) Platform → English - United States naming fields:

  • Font Family Name
  • Font Subfamily Name
  • Unique Font Identifier
  • Full Font Name
  • Version String
  • Postscript Name

Fonts that don’t meet this requirement will fail to install.

You can use Font Creator’s AutoNaming feature (from the Tools menu) to fix this.

I’ve done it, Erwin; thank you. It doesn’t work

Can you send a copy of your font directly to me? I’ll see if I can identify your problem.

OK Erwin, I’ll send you my font. Thank you for your helpfulness.
I created this font from characters of an old ribbon typewriter. If you are not very young you can remember them.

Thank you again

Your font contains a “Microsoft Unicode full repertoire” platform (formerly known as “Microsoft UCS-4” platform, I just noticed the user manual is not fully updated as it still refers to “Microsoft UCS-4” platform). This platform is only useful when your font contains character to glyph mappings with code points higher than 65535 ($FFFF). As your font has no such mappings, I suggest your remove the “Microsoft Unicode full repertoire” platform from your font.

When you decide to keep that platform, to ensure backward compatibility include all mappings from the Microsoft Unicode BMP only platform. To meet this requirement press the Include Microsoft Unicode mappings in Microsoft UCS-4 button (available in the Character to Glyph Index Mappings Window).

…and now my font is well working!!!

Thank you very much.
