Contours filled with patterns and allowed to intersect

I believe that it would be useful to have an option on new contours to have them filled with a selected set of patterns instead of just black.

This idea goes along with another request to have an option that when two contours intersect that the active contour keeps its color or pattern throughout.

I understand this would be a rare requirement for alphbetic letters but it would be useful for symbols and graphics which often have contours intersecting and you wish to know instinctively which is on top.
