Spinner Controls

Post by PJMiller »

There are various spinner controls in Font Creator (the dialog box controls with a number in a box with up/down arrows at the right hand side).

It would be convenient if one could select a spinner control and then use the mouse wheel to increment/decrement those controls.

Alternatively one could select the control and press a key to use the mouse wheel to increment/decrement those controls, for example SHIFT + mouse wheel or CONTROL + mouse wheel.

I think this would enhance the user interface.

 The Up/Down cursor keys will change the values.

Yes indeed they will but it would be faster/more convenient if one could use the mouse wheel to set the number.

I agree.
It would be best to implement it the way it works in adobe softwares -
where you click on the icon/placeholder of the input, and then drag up or down for increase/decrease in number.
But a wheel could work too

I haven’t used a mouse in years, and my trackball doesn’t have a scroll wheel, so I greatly appreciate being able to drag up/down (or right/left) on a control’s icon or label to increase/decrease the value.

This feature is now implemented in FontCreator 12.

Note that the control changed by scrolling is the one, over which, the mouse cursor is currently hovering, not the control that is currently selected.

The scroll step in the Composite Glyph Properties dialogue has been changed from 100 to 1 for X and Y position, and to 0.01 for X and Y Scale.

Its working perfectly! so much fun. thank you.
Can I ask for another suggestion?
scrolling with holding SHIFT will increase/decrease by value of 10 and not 1?
so for example value is 53, scrolling up will go 54.
but value of 53 with scrolling up + holding shift, the value will go to 63.

Unfortunately the control is not capable of doing this.

I understand
How about making this drag up/down (or right/left) like Alfred has suggested?

Adobe has this feature. here's an example:

The reason I ask is because scrolling, in many cases, takes a very long time (and my scrolling finger gets tired).
I've recorded an example so you can see what I mean: https://imgur.com/hWEY9Rg
