Import of .VFB files

Post by PJMiller »

I am currently collaborating with someone in Armenia on the Armenian character set for my latest font 'Bainsley'.

His font editor produces .VFB files which I cannot import into Font Creator so we have to exchange fonts via .TTF or .OTF files.

It may be an idea for a future version of Font Creator to add an import option for common font editor file formats.

I doubt if it feasible for FontCreator to support FontLab Studio files.

That is great, I am looking forward to it!

I suggest you use unified font object (UFO) as font format. All major font editors support it.

It is far from perfect, so be aware not all font internals can be exchanged. Let us know your results, as maybe we need to improve the way we import and export UFO.

The UFO file took a long time to export, the size was enormous and then when I sent it to him he couldn't import it ! :(

I think we will stick to exchanging .TTF files.

We would really like to know if the problem is caused by our export, so we can try to fix it.

It would also help you with the exchange process.

I can't help you with that.

Font Creator created a folder with sub folders and files, I packed this into a .ZIP file, attached it to an e-mail and sent it.

Ruben's response was "Sorry Paul, I was unable to open the UFO files. I tried to use converter, but it the could not be installed."

I don't have FontLab Studio so I can't comment.

I happen to have both FontCreator 13 and FontLab 7, so do send the project file to me and I will give it a try.

The zip file is on it's way to your customer support e-mail. It is a zip file containing the folder which was generated by the UFO export.

I have unzipped the package and then opened it in FL7. No problems here.

It isn't a big issue we are almost done and the Armenian characters are looking legible and comfortable to read by an Armenian. .TTF files did the job.
