Once again, thank you very much Bhikkhu; I never would have known about that manoeuvre even though I have read a substantial portion of the manual. This software is full of surprises.

This is the latest incarnation of the Corieltauvi font. I have added small caps, superscripts, subscripts, some extra private use area symbols (which I moved to codepoints .61398) and discretionary ligatures. I investigated the Open Type Designer, but I think it's a bit beyond me at the moment. As a consequence I couldn't work out if I had a standard ligature setup or not. Certainly when I tested the font in software that could access Open Type features, all the available ones were greyed out.

I have learned a lot working on this font so far. Not sure if it needs any more editing, although some of the glyphs look a tad weak to me, and I keep finding weird alterations to some of them. Next step is producing a proper italic version.

Strictly speaking, you have added Petite Capitals, not Small Capitals, and Scientific Inferiors, not Subscripts. The only OpenType feature in the font so far is the Kerning Pairs. There are no ligature features.

I have added features for Petite Capitals, Petite Capitals from Capitals, Superscripts, Scientific Inferiors, Standard Ligatures, and Discretionary Ligatures.

See my video tutorial on Adding OpenType Features

I intentionally left the lookups incomplete so that you can learn how to complete the lookups if you want to keep those features. If not, just delete any features that you don't want to complete, or they will be useless to others. At least, the Petite Capitals features should include A-Z (if not the accented versions), superscript and scientific inferiors should include at least 0-9, etc.

Before you move on to the Italic version, I recommend fixing any errors, and adding any OpenType features that you want. However, you have to draw a line somewhere, or it will take the rest of your life to complete one set of four font styles.

Thank you once again Bhikku

This is all touching on the limits of my current knowledge. I think I was aware of the Petite Capitals - I remember reading the notes and deciding that these would be more useful than Small Caps, I think; it's been such an involved and intense process that I forget some of the precise details. I think I'll skip over the difference between subscripts and scientific inferiors for now because, as you say, getting the font into its final form is the priority.

I'm not sure what this means; do you mean you have already added these features to Corieltauvi and that I can download it to see what is in there?

I followed the link you gave, but I couldn't find the video in question. Speaking of which, in one of your other videos you mentioned that you couldn't include sound. I might be able to help you there if you are interested.

Anyway, thank you again for your help. Yesterday I printed off the whole manual (I'm taking it to be bound today) and I will spend some time reading what it has to say about OpenType Designer and see if I can make sense of it. To be honest the manual at these points is written more for software savvy writers of code, which I am not. But I will not let that defeat me :)

Best wishes
Les

The Zip file in my post contains the Project file. Extract it, and open it, then open the OpenType Designer.

I have just watched your video, Bhikku, and that seems incredibly clear. I will have to watch it again a few times to get the gist properly sorted, but thank you, that is a valuable resource.

I have just checked out the OpenType Designer and looked at the modifications you made. This seems very clear as well as your video. Again I will take time to study it so that I may fully understand.

Thank you for your time and patience.
