"Similar Font Installed"

Post by riw »

Y'all:

I just installed MainType, and a lot of fonts show up as "similar font installed." Most of these don't seem to have a parallel font actually installed, or I can't find the font that's similar and installed. Can you see, anyplace, which font that's installed is supposed to be "similar" to the one I'm looking at? I'd really like to clear up all these....

Thanks!

Russ

Maybe the term similar font is ambiguous here. Similar means, same font family name, same font style and same font type, but different files (or different file locations). I’ll try to further explain this definition through an example:

Say a font named MyFont with filename myfont.ttf is located in c:\data\fonts
After you install and copy it into the Windows fonts folder, you’ll have a copy of the file located in c:\windows\fonts

Now MainType will show this in the Active pane:
Font Family Name - File Name – Folder - Font Status
MyFont - myfont.ttf - c:\windows\fonts - Installed

In the Browse pane go to folder c:\data\fonts and you’ll see this:
Font Family Name - File Name – Folder - Font Status
MyFont - myfont.ttf - c:\windows\fonts - Similar font installed

And when you browse to c:\windows\fonts you’ll see:
Font Family Name - File Name – Folder - Font Status
MyFont - myfont.ttf - c:\windows\fonts - Installed

Let us know if this solves your issue.
