updating font files

I'm having a hell of a time trying to update font files. I've tried uninstalling, removing, forgetting in Maintype and manually deleting font files but no matter what I do Maintype refuses to recognise the new font files (after, of course, telling it to 'unforget' the font. Otherwise it pretends that the font doesn't exist). The only solution I've found is to tell Maintype to uninstall, delete and forget the font then manually install the font files. Unfortunately this isn't an acceptable solution because I no longer have the type management that I require. Anything I'm doing wrong?

This is how I do it as I frequently edit and update fonts with FontCreator.

Removing Fonts

After exporting the new version, I refresh the Font Folders from the MainType Tools menu to detect any new fonts, and install the new version(s).
