MainType Pro 5 FMS Config Issue
MainType Pro 5 FMS Config Issue
Just installed MainType Pro 5 - when I tried to open it this is the message I received:
OOPS!
MainType has lost the connection to the font service. Please restart the font service through the FMSConfig utility and then restart MainType. If this problem persists, please contact customer support through our website at http://www.high-logic.com
Have uninstalled & reinstalled removing all databases & caches it may have created.
What did I do wrong or what haven't I done.
Thank-you for any help you can give me.

Re: MainType Pro 5 FMS Config Issue
Did you try running the Font Service Configuration utility?
Re: MainType Pro 5 FMS Config Issue
FMS Config Utility Reads:
Font Service status: Installed Running
Main Typle Status: Not Running
FMSPRoxy: Status: Running, Connected
At the risk of being stupid: Is there something else I need to do. Can't find any info on how to set this up or what the accepted settings are.
I leave this box open and start MainType which changes the main type status to Running.
As soon as I try to enlarge, open a function, close the welcome screen, or anything else I receive the OOPS! message. As long as I have MainType open and do absolutely nothing - it is fine. Trying to use it results in the OOPS! message, however duing this OOP! message in the FMS Config Utility it states: Font Service status is installed and Running; Main Type Status is Running; FMS Proxy Satus is Running & Connected.
Double checked with my anti-virus and the programme is accepted and allowed; so no problem there.
So while everything seems correct, what is going on?

Re: MainType Pro 5 FMS Config Issue
Did it at least run once?
If so make sure you are not accidentally trying to start MainType 4.

Re: MainType Pro 5 FMS Config Issue
Please don't insult with that: make sure I am not running maintype 4.
Sorry all prior editions have been uninstalled. MainType 5 Pro has not run once - can't get it to the OOP! box keeps popping up.
Interesting point: When the OOPS! message comes up and I turn off the FMS Config Utility I get a banner that tells me that the service has been stopped. Turn it on, banner disappears. So I assuming at this point that there is a glitch in the software on your end, since the message is a constant.
Have you no solutions? I have done everything correctly.

I'm trying to understand the probelm, and sometimes the most obvious things are the reason why things fail.
Did you download the software from our web site?
Can you let us know the versions which are shown in FmsConfig?

You're a bit touchy. Erwin is only doing his best to diagnose what the problem is.Alexandra wrote:Please don't insult with that: make sure I am not running maintype 4.
Are you still running Windows Vista?

Re: MainType Pro 5 FMS Config Issue
I will try to contact you tomorrow and hope we can locate the root of the problem.
Re: MainType Pro 5 FMS Config Issue
Think I located the problem = not sure, still playing around with the programme but here goes my findings as of now.
Welcome screen: unchecking the do not show does nothing as the screen always appears on startup.
When you try to resize the window of MainType to full screen there is an issue.
Both of these actions trigger the OOPS! message.
What I have done since the yellow banner appears when you turn off the FMS Config utility, I figured that it has something to do with options.
In options i have manually unchecked the Welcome Screen to Do Not Show On Startup.
In Warning & Notifications I have unchecked Notify Me When FMS Proxy Is Not Avilable.
Click Apply then Ok.
Shut MainType down & restarted.
No Welcome Screen, able to resize, able to use programme, and no OOPS! message.
Back to options. Recheck the Warnings & Notifications: Notify Me When FMS Proxy Is Not Available.
Shut MainType down & restarted.
No Welcome Screen, able to resize, able to use programme, and no OOPS! message.
Now the odd part: Upon the 3d attempt at resizing the OOPS! message appears.
Have resized several times the ratio since I have changed the options 4:1 - OOP! appears once out of 4 tries.
This all may have nothing to do with anything. But since changing the options, this is the first time I was able to use the programme. Will continue to try several things.
EDIT: If one scrolls through the fonts the screen reverts from full size to default size and the OOPS! message appears. Thought I had been onto something but at least once in awhile I am able to operate the programme. Hope you can figure this out.
