install shortcuts/duplicates/folders

Not sure if this has been asked, but if so, please forgive me.
I just recently added a set of fonts from Google (Source Sans Pro). When installed, I noticed in the Font Information pane that there were two files listed - one in my \fonts\google\source folder and one in the c:\windows\fonts. I uninstalled them, and some of the fonts showed NO file anywhere, although they did preview.
Secondarily, when looking at the groups pane (recursively created) the folder for Source Sans Pro includes other fonts (Segoe UI Light).
This has me quite confused. With over 30,000 font files in my library, this is one I happened to notice while working on a project.
Any ideas?
