Can't tag some fonts

Post by amplifythought »

Hello!

I have a lot of Adobe fonts loaded on my computer. They display just fine in MainType, but they all show as in a red state (The font is loaded by an external application and MainType cannot determine where it is located. The font cannot be unloaded through MainType.) I don't need to load or unload these fonts from MainType, but I would like to tag them. Currently, I can't tag these red state fonts. When one of the fonts is selected, most of the buttons in the Tag panel are greyed out.

Is there a way to tag these external application fonts? Is this a bug? I'm still fairly new to MainType, so is there another way I can group them maybe if I can't tag them?

As you already explained, MainType does detect fonts loaded by external software. However such fonts are not added to MainType's library, so you can only view them.

Right now the only work-around is to export the font(s) through MainType (File -> Export) and then add those font resources to MainType. Then you get to a tricky part, as you first have to unload the font(s) through the other application, and then load or install through MainType.

Let us know your results.
