Library count: when is it updated?

Post by WolffType »

can someone please explain what triggers the library count to be updated?
Can I force this? If so, by doing what?
Thanks for shedding some light on this for me.

I assume that the library count will be updated when you add/remove a font in a synced folder.

Font Folders.

So it should also be updated if I remove a synced folder?
This is not true in my case at the moment.

From my point of view the synchronisation of folders containing fontfiles does not work - on my Windows 10 PC.
I am using 3 folders that should be synched. All with the same settings like this

Even changing the setting to manual does not change the fact that removing a subfolder containing fonts does not change the counter of the library.

This was the situation

23-12-_2021_22-15-33.jpg (8.27 KiB) Viewed 2850 times
Library count: 2070
Active Fonts: 134

I have learned that the counter IS changed if I do delete a font (or several) in the library view. So I decided to delete ALL fonts from this view (I had duplicated them before to another destination).

All were deleted except the installed ones

I did then move the duplicates back and started a folder refresh, ending up with this result
23-12-_2021_22-29-58.jpg

Again this counter is only changed when doing either an addition of fonts or a manual deletion directly in the library view...

Is this how things are meant to be? This is not what I am expecting from a synchronisation

MainType also makes use of a vault. The vault is a database, that contains a copy of each font you add to the library. This ensures that you'll be able to install and load your fonts, even if you no longer have a copy on disk.

So the Library count reflects all fonts indexed by MainType. As you illustrated, the count will only decrease when you delete a font from within MainType.

Good morning Erwin,
thanks for the reply. OK "vault" and "database", all this is fine. But what is the purpose of those tick boxes then?

I would expect a predefined view which shows everything that is physically available in my defined font folders. At all times. If this is not "library" it should be something else. And "library" should be renamed to "vault", and this term should be explained clearly.

If you want to maintain groups within MainType, we recommend to create groups. If you prefer the way your fonts are organized on your file system, then it is best to use “Keep in sync” folders.
