Lost tags [Solved]

Post by Tup »

I've updated to version 10 and all my custom tags are gone. Definitely not happy about that, as it was the main feature I used the software for, and it was a real pain in the arse to tag all 2000+ fonts I have in my library.

Please tell me there's a way to get them back?

Did you make a backup?

Import and Export Font Data
My FontsReviews: MainTypeFont CreatorHelpFC15 + MT12.0 @ Win 10 64-bit build 19045.2486

We are sorry about the inconvenience.

We have no clue how this can happen, nor have we received similar complaints.

Did you just install the new version over the existing version, or did you first uninstall the older version?

I just clicked the update button, so I guess it's installed over the old version? It's installed in the same location, on my secondary hard drive for sure.

@bikkhu: no I didn't. A warning that I would have had to do so would maybe have been in place.

Anyway; no use crying over spilled milk.

It still doesn't make sense. Tags cannot get lost, unless MainType uses a brand new database.

Was the previous version of MainType using the database from the default location, or did you use FmsConfig to move it to your secondary hard drive as well?

This literally just happened to me also. All of my custom tags are gone...and right before the Christmas season! This is going to set me back at least a week, trying to get everything in order again...I'm so angry. A warning would have been nice! :x

We are very sorry about the inconvenience. We have no features built into the software that automatically remove tags, so this is again very strange.

So far nobody has allowed us to further look into this issue, so it is all speculation what really happened.

I will contact you and hope we can further investigate and fix the problem.

Ok! I spoke to soon! PHEW.

I had to reveal the Tags Panel. Go to View-->Panels-->Tag Search and View-->Panels-->Tags

Ah, yes that makes sense. The update to the new version might have reverted the layout of our font manager back to default, so the panels are no longer visible. As you already mentioned, you just need to show the panels.
