Embedding Licensing Rights puzzle

Post by Alfred »

I've just downloaded a couple of fonts from Ben McGehee's UnAuthorized Type. As the fonts are freeware, why would the font embeddability be set to 'Restricted'?? :?

Many wholly free fonts, especially older ones, were always with the restricted embed. Why? Who knows. Ignorance, perhaps.

On that guy's site, on the Action page, it is pretty obvious that at least one of the users changed permissions...or the application they used to create the computer application for kids didn't care...and they renamed the font...and this font author didn't care.

My understanding is the default for embed rights (in Font Lab) is No. As noted, Ignorance wins again. Routinely these have to be "corrected".

Dick, that may well be the same for Fontgrapher, which is what the author used...but it's been so many years since I used it I cannot remember.
