You either hate it or love it, but I think most people who say they hate it are annoyed by the fact the font is used in too many situations when another font style would be way more appropriate. Especially creative people don't like it when the font is used while a traditional or more modern font would be better.

Actually the font was meant to be used for a specific audience. Back in 1994 Vincent Connare became aware of a new program, Microsoft Bob, which was designed to make computers more accessible to children. Times New Roman was the font used in the word balloons of cartoon characters, and that triggered Vincent to create a font based on text used in cartoons, as he thought such font would be more appropriate within the word balloons. The font wasn't finished in time, so it didn't make it into Microsoft Bob. Soon other projects within Microsoft started to use the new font, and it then became one of the standard Windows fonts.

In the Netherlands the first Friday of July is Comic Sans day. Some Dutch companies have their website in Comic Sans on this day.

And since this is the first Friday of April, that day is exactly thirteen weeks away. Coincidentally, July 7th is also Chocolate Day, Tell the Truth Day and Global Forgiveness Day!
