Control of the coupling feature in the font varies

Post by shuki »

How can the control feature in a parametric font be controlled, for each master individually?

Each master weight behaves differently and needs a different curning setting
How do I control each master individually?

Just click the Add toolbar button and then provide the kern value(s).

Dear Erwin, I did as you said, add radiation values.
It's just that in practice you have to add the control between many pairs.
This is an action that will be required of me thousands of times.
Is it possible to add the pair control to the three masters, to all the existing pairs, and then just drag the values (according to the karning groups I created)

We see your point and are willing to enhance the way you can manage kerning variable fonts.

It would be great if other users can contribute here as well, so we can together find a way to improve it.

Maybe it would be sufficient to just keep the kerning value edit boxes enabled, and add it at the time the user changes a value.

1. If I understood what you are saying, then that the coupling values are executed in a specific master, vary by dragging or changing a parameter - the coupling of the glyphs will be added automatically, that sounds like an amazing solution to me!

2. It is possible to open any desired master, at the beginning of the pairing, it is true that sometimes the gain values between different masters in a wide space between the glyphs, then do not get too much work to return the situation to the basic space, and only then apply work on pairs .

I would love an ultimate solution (:

Another idea that comes to mind, that can save a lot of time!
When working on a master sometimes the values created are great even for the more bold master, just maybe a little crowded and need spacing based on the existing coupling, so it is possible to add a slider to expand all the couplings proportionally.

Erwin I would love to be updated, I think that what you have suggested is excellent and can significantly facilitate, the option that the moving couple is added automatically, I would love to know even if the slider is practical for you, to me it feels very effective from my point of view as a typographer :)

I'm preparing to launch a project, and this coupling issue is delaying it. I would love to know if this is going to be resolved, or to add thousands of pairs manually?

I think we are able to add this later today. At first we will add support for this for pair adjustment, and if it proves to be useful we can add it to single adjustment and mark positioning as well.

You should be able to reset the coupling values to the master, because for a particular master coupling, the parameters apply to all masters, and sometimes it is very convenient to work on a parameter-free basis due to changes in character character, due to thickness or other variables

You can always click the minus button and the values will be removed from the selected master.
