Circle T

Post by Dave Crosby »

Hi Berkeley,

If I understand you correctly, assuming you are working on a NEW font,
[If you are working in an existing font, you should save it under a new name and may want to press the <<ABC>> add a glyph button and work in that space, copy your finished glyph to the clip-board, erase the original T and paste in your new version, then delete the glyph box you added]

I would right-click in the edit window for the T glyph, select New Contour, then rough-draw a circle moving in a clockwise direction for the size you want.

Start at the top center [12 O'clock position] at perhaps 500, 1000, with a left click [for an on curve point, then two right clicks [for off curve points] at 750, 1000 and 1,000, 750, then an on point at 1,000, 500 and an off point at 1000, 250 to finish the right side.

Finish the circle with the pattern of an on-point in the center of each side and an off-point in a straight line on each side of it, then click on the first point you made to close the contour.

Use the mouse to select individual points and snap them to the grid, then press the H key [to Hide the lines] as you use the arrow keys to make final adjustments to the circle.

 Or you could just drag a circle in from the samples along the left side of your screen, but where is the fun in that?

Double click or select the contour button and grab a corner if you wish to make it larger or smaller.

Now that you have a circle, add points where you want to modify it into a T. Select a point counter-clockwise from that position and press the A key three or four times to add points. Do the same on the other side of the glyph.

Move the new points to your desired positions, press F or N to change their "persuasions" and you are done!

 If instead, you meant that you wanted a T inside a circle, add an inner circle drawing the contour COUNTER-CLOCKWISE [*A quick and dirty trick is to select the circle contour, copy it to the clipboard, de-select the circle, then paste a copy back on top of it, finish by grabbing a corner and making it smaller, then right click and reverse direction*] to make the fill color white, draw a T contour CLOCKWISE [or copy a T to your clip-board, paste your T onto the glyph] in the inner space, then manipulate it to fit.
