Superscript section

Post by Dan Kreider »

Hi, me again. I'm really enjoying Font Creator so far.

I am needing to create some superscript characters. The idea would be to pull from existing glyphs (I don't know the difference between glyphs and characters). So for example:

The (b9) portion would sometimes be displayed as shown here, and sometimes superscript.

Is there a way to accomplish this without creating unique characters for each superscripted iteration?

Thanks!
Dan

This is usually done in the word-processor that you use to write with the font.

Do you want superscript to be applied whenever the text is in brackets?

Thanks, brackets would be fine! While this font will be used in Word and InDesign, its main use will be in a music notation program called Dorico which presently does not support superscripts, so they would need to be supplied by the font if possible.

Also, I would want control over the superscript design, since typical superscripts supplied by Word would be too small in some of these cases.

I envisage two problems here:

1. Dorito probably uses a custom font that is protected by copyright
2. It may not support OpenType features.

In Unicode there is a block dedicated to Musical Symbols at $1D100 to 1D1FF.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks to you both.

Dorico uses fonts that are published under OFL, so they can be freely modified and distributed. Dorico does support OT, including ligatures and kerning.

My needs regarding musical symbols are extremely specific, and are not covered by the standard Unicode offerings.
