WWS Family

Post by Pyanepsion »

Hello everyone. There is a field named WWS Family Name and another WWS Subfamily Name. What does WWS mean and what does it correspond to? In what kind of Windows fonts can we find these values? Thanks for your explanations.

In the documentation, there is a reference to an outdated link: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/text/2 ... ion-model/
On FontForge, the term appears in the localization file, but is not explained.

I should add, FontForge talks about PFM families, a feature I didn’t find in FontCreator. Could it be the same thing?
The PFM¹ Family is used when generating PFM files and classifies the font into some rather broad categories (Serif, Sans, Monospace, Script, Decorative).
¹PFM = Font Metrics Format

This question has still not been answered!
The explanations provided in the FontCreator help by typing WWS in the help are non-existent. It only says:
WWS Family
The WWS Family name *
WWS Subfamily
The WWS Subfamily name *
The asterisk refers to a link on the Microsoft site. This link talks about something else … to say that this is something else is outdated.
*) For more information about WWS please visit our forums at https://forum.high-logic.com/ or visit this website: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/text/2 ... ion-model/
It would be nice to either get an explanation or to update the help and indicate it.

I don't know FontForge, so I can't answer your question. It seems like a more generic font name, but better read their documentation, or ask for support at their site.

The user manual is currently not updated for version 14, we are working on it.
