How should I set the font preview?

Post by sam1367 »

Hi, I have problem with my exported ttf font preview. Specifically, the problem is when I open my created font using "Windows Font Viewer" the glyphs are like some Arial font which is different from my font.
However, when I install my created font, it shows alright in applications. The only problem is the preview of the font. I was wondering how I can set that.
Thank you very much.

My fonts preview OK in the Windows Font Viewer, even if they are not installed.

Can you share your font with us?

I get the same issue with your font, but if I export it from FontCreator, it previews OK.

Which version are you using?

I don't have that version, but the font attached above was exported from FontCreator 10.1.

I think FontCreator is fixing any bugs in the font automatically. Does my attached font preview correctly for you?

Yeah, it is showing correctly. Do you think that there might be something wrong with the way I export font?
This is how I do it:
File -> Export Font As... -> Export as TrueType/OpenType Font...
Then I set these parameters in "Export as TrueType/OpenType Font" window:
Outline Format: TrueType
OpenType Layout Features: Yes
Legacy 'kern' Table: No
Glyph Names: No
Hinting: Keep Original
Then I hit Export and save as a ttf file.

I used the same settings.

I exported from FontCreator 10.1 and 13 with the same results.

I suggest fixing the bugs in your font and not worrying too much about the preview.

The Phonographic Copyright symbol belongs in Letterlike symbols, not the Private Use Area.

There are loads of intersecting co-ordinates that make a mess of the outlines even after fixing detected problems with the Font Validation Wizard (which cannot fix intersecting co-ordinates).
