Typography to produce a resonance with a period in history.

Post by William » Tue Jan 11, 2005 8:04 pm

I saw an interesting item with typographical interest on the television today here in the United Kingdom.

One of the main political parties, the Labour Party, which is, in fact, at present the party of government, has launched some new posters. This is perhaps because 2005 is widely thought to be going to be an election year in the United Kingdom.

What I thought was interesting was that various typographical styles have been used and they each rather elegantly, in my opinion, produce a resonance with a period in history.

There appear to be four designs.

I found them on the web at the following web page.

http://www.labour.org.uk/posterlaunch

Illustrations of the four posters are there, each at 350 pixels wide by 175 pixels high, which is a ratio of 2 wide to 1 high.

I rather like the W in the word LOWEST in the flower power design. It seems to have an Anglo-Saxon look, though I think that the Anglo-Saxons did not actually use a W as such!
