PUA or no encoding name?

Post by jch02140 »

Hi,

I am interested to know if there is a preferred way of doing the alternates of characters, as in should they be encoded in PUA or use custom name like A.alt / A.2, etc?

Best Regards,

If not needed then don't use the Private Use Area at all. If the font is mainly used for personal use, then feel free to use PUA.

We suggest to use .alt as suffix as it is common practice and is easy to understand, but actually anything will do, as those glyph names will not end up in the actual font.
