Synchronise Widths of Tabular Figures Across Weights

Post by Bhikkhu Pesala »

Discussion on TypeDrawers

In my Pali Font, for example, which have default tabular figures, I used the same 982 funits advance width for Regular and Italic, but a greater 1036 funits advance width for Bold and Bold Italics.

Would be better practice to use 1036 for both? Or, would one only do this for fonts with OpenType Tabular figures?

I have synchronised the widths of the tabular figures across all the weights of the 'Munson' font and I intend to do this in the future.

I don't know if this is best practice or not but it makes sense to me so that if someone makes a number bold in a table it doesn't alter the structure of the table or throw any other figures out of line.
