Runic unicode block and bearings

Post by Lesley Prince »

I am working on a runic font (just because I can). Accordingly I have been working on the Unicode Runic block, filling it with the requisite images. So far so good. Some of these I have copied into the Latin mappings so that the font may be used as a normal font. Again, so far so good. The problem I have is that while FontCreator seems happy to calculate bearings for those glyphs contained in the Latin field, it completely ignores those glyphs in the Unicode runic block. Have I missed something? or is this the norm? Does FontCreator regard the runic block as a symbol block and therefore require the bearings to be set manually?

You will have to manually set the bearings for non Latin characters.

We might consider adding support for Optical Metrics for other Unicode blocks or even a general one, if more people think this would help with their font development.
