Rearranging Toolbars

Post by Bhikkhu Pesala »

The toolbars can be rearranged from the default setup to suit your own method of working. Here are a few suggestions

Right Side:

The Drawing Toolbar is used the most while working in the Glyph Edit Window. Double-click on the left edge of the docked toolbar to make it floating. Double-click on the floating toolbar's title to dock it again. Resize the floating toolbars by dragging their edges.

Font Creator remembers the docked and floating positions of the toolbars.

If more toolbars are undocked it gives you more vertical space, and keeps a few more tools close at hand.

The toolbars can also be docked on the left or right side of the window to give the maximum vertical work area.

NOTE: If you attach any images in reply to a thread, please use a maximum width of 600 pixels to keep the thread easy to read. Screenshots are small and sharp when cropped before saving as PNG or GIF images rather than JPG. Resize the Font Creator Window before taking a screen shot rather than resizing the screenshot itself. That way it stays sharp and shows no more than necessary to illustrate your point. Irfan View, FastStone Capture, or the Windows Snipping Tool can be used to save screenshots.

After carefully arranging the toolbars where you want them, export the FontCreator Windows Registry key to keep a backup of the settings. The exact path will depend on the version.

1. Windows Key + R to open the Run Dialog
2. Type "regedit" and press Enter
3. Drill down to find the Toolbar key.

For FontCreator 11 it will be found here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\High-Logic\FontCreator\11.0\Position\Toolbars

For FontCreator 10 it will be found here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\High-Logic\FontCreator\10.0\Position\Toolbars

For FontCreator 9 it will be found here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\High-Logic\FontCreator\9.0\Position\Toolbars

etc.

Keep a backup of your registry keys on external media too. If you need to reinstall FontCreator, run the registry file from Windows Explorer to add the settings back to the Windows registry.

In FontCreator 11.0 the toolbar icons are now larger, and there are more buttons. I therefore recommend exporting the registry key after arranging them as you like so that you can easily recover your favourite arrangement if it is lost.

Below are just the dockable toolbars (undocked for ease of illustration). There are also several floating palettes the positions of which are also saved in the Windows registry.
