Open Type Development

I have begun to work with VOLT. Currently I have three versions of the same font
in my working directory.
1) The pure TrueType font generated by Font Creator (.ttf)
2) A font with special tables put there by VOLT to allow for OpenType development. (.ttf)
3) A release version of generated by VOLT stripped of the temporary tables and ready for shipping (.otf)
I have not yet developed a smooth routine

I want to be able to install any of these fonts and look at them in a word processor or browser. I need to do this
quickly and with certainty that I know which version is being used.
BUT sometimes changes I make don't appear until the machine has been restarted. On several occasions
MainType has displayed a window full of empty glyphs (says its an ASCII font). MainType also says that all
the fonts are TrueType.
All very confusing.

If you want to check the OpenType features that you have added, try the free TrueType Viewer. Open the otf version, and enable the features. Type some sample text.

The True Type Viewer is useful in many ways but does not seem to handle right to left languages.
The Hebrew is displayed backwards which isn't helpful in testing Kerning.

I started this Topic because I couldn't work with MainType. I modify a font using VOLT
by putting in a ridiculous kerning pair. One character is moved up helf a space and the other
character moved down so it is impossible not to see it.
I then save ("Ship") the modified font as an .otf file.
I unistall the .ttf version of the font and install the new .otf
Now I open a word processor and I don't see my changes!
I restart the computer and now I do see them.

Why isn't MainType doing the installation properly? I can I do it in a different way?
I'm using the I- and I+ buttons.
Help Please as the restart makes things very slow.

I have discovered that MainType gets "stuck" after displaying a corrupted font generated
by VOLT. So until this problem is resolved, let's assume MainType if OK!

I have had major problems with all Open Type Fonts, they don't show up, or don't show up as loaded, won't show in a pdf. I am going to see if the new 3.0 version has addressed this. Could be an Adobe problem or Vista. Have not encountered this before.
