Hi,
Firstly I'm no font designer, but I am having to work on a Font that the company I work for has producted. Total Newbie
The font I'm working on works fine on Win2000 and XP, but will not desplay characters on a Windows9X machine. I have been using Font Creator 3.1.1 to work on the font, it has been by far the easlest for me to get to grips with.
If anyone can give me some clues as to the difference between the o/s's and fonts and what I mybe missing from my font file please
regards
martin
My font does not work under Win9x

Erwin,
I started with a half complete true type font file that someone who is no longer with the company did, and using a tool we could not find !!
So I downloaded Font Creator to see if that would work, I ended up deleting all mappings and recreating them.
So I guess I'm using Font Creator to both create the font and fix it.
Under WinXP and 2000 all the characters are displayed, under 9x only the default character is diaplayed, so basically you get a screen full of hollow boxes.
would you like to see the font ?
regards,
martin

The Symbol font works just fine after I removed Latin1 (1252) from the Code Page Ranges Settings on my Win98 machine.
Some rules that concern Symbol fonts:
-Symbol Character Set should be the only selected Code Page Range.
-No Unicode Character Ranges should be selected when designing a Symbol font.
-In the Settings window (Format menu) on the Classification tab set the Panose - Family Kind to Pictorial and the Font-family - Class to Symbolic.

I must be doing something really stupid, because I've done what you surgest. I get some characters displayed, but its some uppercase instead of lowercase and downarrows instead of spaces.
I have taken 2 screen dumps of what a screen should look like on what it does look like with this font.
Would it be possible to email me back the font I sent you with your changes in it please.
regards
martin
