alternate letters

Post by RANDY »

I'm working on a script font and want to use two differant lower case "y"s. How can I access these letters using the key board when working in my graphics program?Perhaps some special mapping? Will I need to use the alt. key? thanks

Assuming that you always and only want to use the alternate y after certain letters. the right way is to use Open Type features, which are not included in Font Creator.

A work around that may satisfy your needs would be to assign the alternate y to ý or ÿ then select the International US keyboard and type it with ' then y or " then y. This works for all accented vowels too: áéíóú and ` + vowel for àèìòù and " + vowel for äëïöü etc.

To install the US keyboard go to Control Panel, keyboard, properties, language, add. The US International keyboard can be toggled with Alter Left Shift, repeat to return to your default UK or US keyboard. You can also have an icon in the system tray.
