Contour-fill at design time

Is it possible to turn contour-fill off at design time please?

For example, at present, when I draw a small b, having drawn the clockwise contour, all of the guidelines are covered where I want to draw the counterclockwise contour.

If contour-fill cannot presently be turned off, could it be made an option please in a future release of the software, with filling as at present being the default?

Yes.

Make sure the Grid toolbar is showing:

View -> Toolbars -> Grid

The button with two squares (one black), separated by an oblique line, toggles contour fill and outline.
