Copy Paste from Illustrator doesn't respect positioning
Copy Paste from Illustrator doesn't respect positioning
When I copy/paste from Illustrator it doesn't correctly place the shape between the bearings, all other font editors do. Is there a way to change this behaviour?

Take a look at the Vector Import options in Tools, Options.
The Pro version has the Optical Metrics feature that should be used to calculate suitable side-bearings.

Re: Copy Paste from Illustrator doesn't respect positioning
There is no option in the Vector Import options settings to respect
the position of my shape coming from Illustrator,
it just puts it on the left sidebearing, disregarding the positioning
from the Illustrator document.
I don't want to calculate new sidebearings,
when I place my glyph in Illustrator 20 units from the left and -8 from the
baseline I want to have the same position in FontCreator, like I mentioned
this is standard behaviour in all the other font editors - please correct this.
I own a FontCreator Pro license, and expect industry wide standard workflow behaviour,
otherwise buying FontCreator was a mistake.
Thanks in advance.

It doesn't sound too complicated, so I'll contact you to discuss details of this. We can them implement this in the next upcoming update.

hey,
got the same problem, lucky i´m just playing with the trial.
but could you fix it, or could you find any workaround already?
need for an origin or something like this.

While you're waiting for a fix, you can use the Glyph Transformer to move contours up or down, and change side-bearings. There is no undo for Glyph transforms, so you may find it quicker to just use the Transform toolbar to set side-bearings and the nudge shortcuts to move contours in the Glyph Edit Window.
- Up/Down/Left/Right to nudge by 10 funits
- Ctrl + Up/Down/Left/Right to nudge by 1 funit
- Shift + Up/Down/Left/Right to nudge by 100 funits
Re: Copy Paste from Illustrator doesn't respect positioning
hey,
interesting, the glyph transformer, thanks for the fast reply.
My problem is more the baseline, that was already defined, but loosing it by importing the glyph, didn´t feel that great. By the way, i´m quite happy that strg c/v works from AI (Abobe Illustrator) and backwards to FC.
The workaround i´ll try, that i will "coexport" a reference square in 100x100 units, for example -300 units in x direction, fitting to the grid (8.9252 mm/100units in my case) that i drew in AI, that will be deleted after positioning the glyph in FC with grid snap option on. it´s a workaround, but feels precise to me.

Re: Copy Paste from Illustrator doesn't respect positioning
I've tried to find an easy solution, but for now your work-around sounds like the best option. Somehow Adobe Illustrator stores the outlines in an unexpected position. Maybe it contains a transformation somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it yet.
Re: Copy Paste from Illustrator doesn't respect positioning
Sorry for bumping this old thread.
I am wondering if there is any updates to this issue?...
I have read dkso's comment on the workaround solution but I am somewhat confused and unsure how to proceed...

It sounds like it should be easy to improve this.
Can you post a couple of ai files and explain how you think the import should position them?

Hi Erwin,
Very sorry for the late reply. I just replied to your email with the AI files.
Let me know if you need further clarifications.
