White overlaps in clockwise contours

Post by Marius »

Hello Erwin, hello everybody,

I am delighted with FCP. A lifelong desire to mangle fonts finally comes true.

I have a small problem. I use Xara X to create graphics for web and print.

With some glyphs I have created or modified, solid (clockwise) contours which overlap look fine in FCP but in Xara X show white space in the overlapping areas. I have posted an example of the letters A and H in a Mackintosh type font, where I added contours:

Please can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Overlapping Contours

Just reverse the direction of the overlapping contours that you have added.

Right-click on the contour, and choose change direction.

If that doesn't work, post again.

By the way: your fonts look very thin. Are they too light at normal sizes?

Hello Bhikkhu,

Many thanks, Happy New Year. I have tried that, but since the direction of the overlapping contour was clockwise to begin with, this produces the same effect -- white overlaps -- except now the glyphs are appearing as one would expect they should. The defective glyphs look fine in FCP and in other programs (such as CorelDraw), it is only in Xara X that the white overlaps re-appear. I guess this is a Xara problem, I just wondered if anyone else had a solution.

Thanks!

You could combine the overlapping contours. When you want to combine two contours you have to select one point on both contours. Next right-click one of these points and click Join Contours on the shortcut menu.

Dear Erwin,

Many thanks for the advice. I think this is going to work, though I need more experience with the Join Contours function.

Many thanks for the great support!
