How to transfer Tags

Post by jedbadda »

Hi,

I am setting up a new computer. When I re-install all my fonts and MainType, I want to be able to keep my same tag system. How do I transfer that over, without having to tag all my fonts all over again?

Use Export/Import on the Tools menu.

Ah, got it. I was looking at the File menu instead (File/Export). Thanks for clearing that up!!

Ok, I went to Tools/Import and Export/Export Tags and Ratings (from version 9, Pro)

Then in my new install on another computer (version 11, Pro), went Tools/Import and Export/Import Font Tags, Ratings and Notes

...and nothing happened.

Help please!

When you export the tags from MainType, you have to give them a file name.

Then, when you import them to MainType 11.0 you choose the file that you previously exported.

You can save your files wherever you wish, and give them a memorable file name. I saved mine in C:\Documents\My Fonts\

Unfortunately, I have done this and nothing happened, the tags were not imported.

I am going from MainType v9 to v11, is that the cause?

-In original version (v9), I go Tools/Import and Export/Export Font Tags, Ratings, Notes

-It generates a MainType Export file (.xml) that I give a unique name and Save

-I take that file to my new computer, and in MainType v11, I go Tools/Import and Export/Import Font Tags, Ratings, Notes

-I select the .xml file, click Open

Nothing happens at all.

Can anybody help on this? I'm worried that my tags will be lost forever if I upgrade to the new version. It took several hours to organize my fonts and set the tags.

For some reason the import fails here as well. We will look into it.

Ah, I had to go to View/Panels/Tags for them to show up. The Tags and Tag Search panels weren't part of the interface by default.

What a relief, there they were. Thank you for the solution!
