Kerning Pairs

Post by kiwiburger »

Is it possible to show number of kerning pairs in the metrics section of the font info window? Also is it possible to show more metrics info for Type 1 fonts?

I have these on the to-do list:
- Code pages
- Unicode ranges
- Tables
- Number of kerning pairs
Also is it possible to show more metrics info for Type 1 fonts?
PostScript Type 1 fonts have very few data stored inside the font files. What (available!) information would you like to see?

I used to use a program called Typograf before I discovered Maintype. Below is just the metrics information from the properties sheets it shows for the Type 1 font "Brighton Medium". It goes on to tabulate all the kerning pairs using the actual font together with their values. If that is the available data it is certainly rather more than I would need. I apologise if what follows is too long - I hope as moderator you can truncate it as you think it necessary:

Hi kiwiburger,

Thanks for your fast reply!

I guess I should be able to add most of these metrics, but personally I don't think they are all that important. What typographic data would you really like to see in a next release?

I agree - all I really like to check is the number of kerning pairs to see how well designed a font is. And maybe letter widths, unicode or ansi ranges, and size values. I got to say that the kerning pair table in Typograf was pretty awesome & I did use that rather a lot.

I'll look into it and probably add more PostScript Type 1 metrics (especially kerning related) to the next upcoming release.
