Syncing 2 computers

Post by DaveyD »

Hi, I have 2 computers - Desktop and laptop
I setup maintype on my Desktop and I would like my laptop to mirror that setup (fonts and all)
Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,
David

One can back up MainType on one PC and transfer the font vault to another PC. Archiving the folder with 7-Zip will halve the size of the file to be transferred.

I don't know of a way to keep the two PCs in sync.

Ok, Thank you

Is it going to backup and copy the font files as well or just their locations?

My 2 computers have the same exact structure and the font files are in the exact location
All I need is for MainType to look for them there
Will this work?

Any fonts that you add to MainType are stored in the vault, even fonts on external drives that have since been removed. If you already have the same fonts installed in the same locations, copying the vault and restoring from the backup will restore your groups and tags (IIRC), but as soon as you change something on either PC the synchronisation will be lost.

I don't think this suits your purpose, but it might be OK for setting up a new PC with MainType.

Thank you for the explanation!
The backup and restore worked perfectly for me
Like you said, it won't stay in sync but at least the setup is done

Thanks!
