Hi. Total newbie here. I've done a bit of googling and looking through the forum but can't find what I'm looking for - probably because I don't know the correct terminology.
I have 2 questions.
1. I am making a font that will create different sized frames, so a top corner of a box, and directly under that, a vertical component, and then directly under that a bottom corner. The probelm is that I can't get them to touch - I want there to be a continuous vertical line from the top row, to the second row, to the bottom row.
I feel like I have all the vertical metrics the same, so I'm sure I'm missing something very basic.
2. I want to be able to use the space key for getting to the other side of the box and then putting another vertical line in to finish that side of the box (so that the boxes can be of varying width). Something weird happens and I think it's to do with the fact that the 'space' 'glyph' has no height and it messes everything up.
I'm currently testing it in Affinity Publisher but eventually want to use it in a digital planner.
I'll attach the file.
Thanks in advance.

Spcae should not be used to display outlines.
What test lines can you give and what do you expect?

Hi Erwin. Thank you for your quick reply.
In the screenshot I've sent you, there is a corner in the middle of the first box. I want that to be a space instead - I want the characters betwen the left hand upright and the middle upright to be empty, and the only way I can think of doing that is to have a space.

Ok. So the problem seems to be in Publisher. I tried it in a oldish version of Illustrator and it worked just like it did in FontCreator. Thank you.
Thanks for the 'newline' thing, by the way - I didn't know how to test a multiline set of characters.
Any idea why there are vertical gaps between each line of characters?

In Affinity Publisher do one of the following:
From the context toolbar, select or enter a value via the Paragraph Leading setting.
From the Paragraph panel, select or enter a value via the Paragraph Leading setting in the Spacing section.
Do read this part of the help which explains how to change line spacing, which sets the vertical spacing between lines that make up the paragraph:
https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.l ... %20spacing
And to change it, set Spacing -> Leading on the Paragraph panel:

Re: I want each line of text to touch (vertically)
Righto. I was hoping to have it happen without having to change the vertical spacing manually, but I can at least do that.
Thanks so much for your help.
