The orientation tool changes the orientation of a contour to left or right. In 1 the orientation of the two overlapping contours differs and the overlapping part becomes white. In 2 the orientation of both parts is equal. Applying Thin(40,40) on 2 results in, as desired in 4. But, applying Effect Thin(40,40) on 1 result in 3 because:
• Applying Thin on a left oriented contour makes thicker, Applying Thin on a right oriented contour makes it Thinner.
• The orientation of both contours differs and that is visible in 3.
The same happens when applying Effect Bold on contours with different orientation. That becomes a big problem when selecting a group of glyphs and you apply Effect Thin or Bold to all of them, while the orientation of contours in the selection differs. Can this be solved by making Effects Bold & Thin independent of Orientation?

Re: Bold, Thin and Orientation
Both contours should have the same direction.
