Problems with mapping and char()-function

Post by matze »

Hi,

i want to use a special font and the charakter-function in MS Excel for generating small text-diagramms.

I made 200 glyphs, containing bars with ascending hight.

The char()-function in MS Excel returns the character by index.
So I mapped the glyphs by typing values 1 to 200 into "value"-combobox.

It works properly for values from 1 to 127 and 160 to 200.
In range 128, 130 to 140, 142 and 145 to 159 there are displayed charakter from Arial.

Does anybody know why?

Thanks in advance.

Many of those mappings are reserved for control codes. Take a look at the Insert Character dialogue. I am surprised it worked for mappings from 1 to 31.

I would suspect that you would have more success if you started mapping from 256. That is the Latin Extended-A character set, but I assume that Excel can cope with that OK.
