Organizing ligatures?

I have a lot of ligatures, around 250. Can I group them into subclasses just for the purpose of keeping them organized? Or do I need to keep them all in one list?

Subclasses are not supported in the user interface. You can also decide to maintain the list in feature code, or even in a spreadsheet. You will then need to import it somehow.
