Can't delete fonts

Suddenly, about 100 or so fonts that I was looking at for possible inclusion in my library somehow got installed in MainType. They have a red dot next to them. When selected, they don’t offer the option to delete “Select Duplicates” doesn’t select them. They don’t appear in any group on the left panel. They appear in “active fonts” but not the library. How can I get rid of them?

A red dot means MainType can see the font is currently active, but it cannot determine where the font is located. In other words: the fonts are not really part of your MainType library, which is why they do not appear in your groups and why options like Delete, Uninstall, or Select Duplicates do not apply.

This usually happens when another application or font manager has activated the fonts, for example Adobe Creative Cloud, Corel/Bitstream Font Navigator, or another tool. MainType can detect that Windows has those fonts active, but it cannot unload or remove them because it does not control them.

Please try this:

  1. Close all design applications.
  2. Check any other font tools you use, especially Adobe Creative Cloud or another font manager, and deactivate/uninstall the fonts there.
  3. Restart Windows.
  4. Open MainType again and check Active Fonts.

If the fonts still show with a red dot, they are still being loaded by something outside MainType. In that case, please let us know which other font managers or design applications you use, and if possible send a screenshot of the Active Fonts panel showing the red-dot fonts.

Thanks for your quick response. I bought MainType to help me in my current push to get away from Adobe, but the transition isn’t complete yet. This is another reason for me to prioritize moving my workflow away from Adobe.
