I am trialling FontCreator and created a new font but cannot see it in the OpenOffice drop down list. The new font does show in microsoft Word 2003 however. Any ideas? I tried restarting OO. 
UPDATE - restarted PC and it now shows
Interesting that Open Office requires a re-start while other programs do not.
And it is good to know the problem was not with Font Creator (still by far the best program I have ever purchased!)
