Character is too big for the default sizes

I am struggling with a problem and cannot seem to find the solution.

I am creating a font, but some of the character needs to go below the bottom horixontal line. How do I drop this bottom line so that the entire character will appear in the word processors, etc.?

Thanks for any help I can get.
