Hi,
I am looking for a way to delete a font file from only one file directory when it has duplicates in other scanned folders.
E.g.: the font file Examplefont.otf is in two folders C:\Fonts\A_folder and C:\Fonts\B_folder. I am looking for a way to delete only one file from, say, the B_folder and not the A_folder.
I ask because I wish to delete a large set (100+) of redundant files from one folder.
Is it possible to do this?
The Delete function in MainType gives you the ability to delete from ALL locations (All folders, and the library database) and not a specific directory. If this option does not exist, I would suggest that such an option would enhance the delete function. The option could be greyed out if the selected items for deletion do not all reside in the same folder.
Or… if possible, expose more user controllability for the Library/Select Duplicates function. If users do not understand how “Select Duplicates” sorts, it could mean losing fonts that a user may wish to keep!
I tried to get around this by selecting all the duplicate fonts, Exporting them into another folder, then using a “compare directories” function in Windows to select all the duplicate files so I can just hit DELETE, but unfortunately Export renames all the items form their file names to their font names, which is handy in itself, but inconvenient for this example use case.
I would also suggest that Export comes with a toggle option for “Font Name” or “Original File Name”.
This type of collection curation, I feel, is probably very basic to what many people face with large, unorganized collections. The more options to clean up and organize a font collection, the more it would increase the value of MainType for folks. That said, let me know if I am missing the boat on workflow and please school me if there are better methods of achieving these goals.
