How do I change the horizontal line that appears to limit the length of descenders? Any portion of a descender that crosses that line is cut off.
I created a font following the directions in the Quick Start Tutorial (File->New->wgl4.ttf). The Descender Limit Line (does it have a proper name? - I tried to find it in the help index) appears to be at -434. I changed that number (from -434 to -550) in the Descender field of the Header tab under Format->Settings and in the Typodescender field of the Windows tab under Format->Settings but it didn’t move the Descender Limit Line.
I’ve opened other fonts with the Font Creator program and seen Descender Limit Lines with values much lower than -434 (e.g. -842 for the font Gigi).
I found a posting by Toma under the Tutorials & Solutions section (Dec 19, 2002 9:38 am) that seemed to be related. It mentions the VDMX table. I tried to follow the suggested fix but still could not change the Descender Limit Line. I downloaded the Microsoft Font Tools and ran cacheTT (with the default options) and it created the new .ttf file. It reported some warnings:
“Bit 4 of flags field in ‘head’ table is not set. ‘LTSH’ table should not be included and will not be calculated”
“Bit 4 of flags field in ‘head’ table is not set. ‘hdmx’ table should not be included and will not be calculated”
The warnings didn’t mention the table VDMX but when I looked under Format->Tables for the output .ttf file after running the tool the VDMX talbe still wasn’t listed (not in supported nor in unsupported) (it wasn’t listed in either place before I ran the tool on the input .ttf)
I tried to look over the other values on the different tabs under Format->Settings to see if I could figure it out but I’m at a loss.
I just downloaded the Font Creator program today and I’m psyched about it. It seems great.
Thanks
