Discretionary Ligatures help

Hi!

t_t.ss03.dlig or t_t.dlig.ss03 is correct?

What version will be work?

Both names are valid glyph names, but it is best to avoid stacking feature suffixes. Use one suffix that matches the feature you want:

  • t_t.dlig β†’ discretionary ligature (feature dlig)
  • t_t.ss03 β†’ ligature used only when ss03 is active

Chaining them (e.g. t_t.ss03.dlig or t_t.dlig.ss03) can work with auto-generation:

In case of t_t.ss03.dlig, you need to also have these glyphs:
t
t_t.ss03
t_t.ss03.dlig

for t_t.dlig.ss03 you need:
t
t_t.dlig
t_t.dlig.ss03

If you don’t want to add the intermediate names at all, just create the target glyph(s) and add the substitutions manually.

Which one will work in a real software like Word or Affinity Designer?

Word supports both discretionary ligatures and stylistic sets.

Affinity also supports stylistic sets, but I am not sure about discretionary ligatures.
